Robin McGillivray's Warbler - 2 seen at close range English Sparrows - 30-40 Brewer Blackbirds - 20-30 - all birds seen from one spot in the park, without moving. September 15, 1948, San Francisco Bay, Berkeley, Calif. 0830 PST. Calm, cool. (65°) Pintails - raft of about 25 or 30 Dowitchers and W Willets feeding on tidal flats near the hiway. Forester's Terns quite common September 18, 1948. Freeport-Isleton, 0830-0930 PDST. W5, Sacramento Co. California Blue Heron California Jay - several to San Joaquina Co. Sparrow Hawk Pheasant F Western Crow Killdeer San Joaquin Bewick Wren California Gull W. Meadowlark - a couple Mourning Doves Brewer Blackbirds common California Woodpeckers - 2 House Finch Willow Downy Woodpecker Sacramento Spotted Towhee Rough-winged Swallows - few Song Sparrow Barn Swallows - 100's seen - very common September 18, 1948 - Isletto n- Antioch Bridge. 0930-1115 PDST San Joaquin-Contra Parallon Cormorants - 2 immatures Costa California Blue Heron California Jays Killdeer California Bicolor Redwings California Gulls Brewer Blackbirds Barn Swallows Western Crows Twitchell Island junction - along route above. Vultures circling - common - not early in a.m. Sparrow Hawk - 3 or 4 California Valley Quail Pheasants - 3 adults (2M & 1F) 40' in dead willow. Monterey red-shafted Flicker - one calling and flew by California Bush Tits - one flock of 15-20 birds San Joaquin Bewick Wren - scolding Intermediate Wren-Tit -(C. f. intermediae)- heard calls from car - later saw them. Lutescent Warbler - one scold-noting in with bush-tit flock California bicolor redwing Purple Finches - a small flock Greenbacked Goldfinc h - flock, and saw one pair feeding near-adult-sized young. Sacramento Spotted Towhee - few September 18kl948 south end, Antioch Bridge, Contra Costa Co. 1115-1200. W 5-10 Coot - calling California Gulls common Suisun Long-billed Marsh Wren - singing California Shrike - giving variety of call notes San Francisco Redwings - common. Calling and chattering from depths of Scirpus thickets. Brewer's Blackbirds - common Nuttall white-crowned Sparrows - few an ground at edge of willow brush. Cache Slough - N of Rio Vista.
