K. Ameciman 1964 Kangalim Atoll, Marshall Is. island must provide sufficient, e.g.,... entertainment. This is the only Loran Station I have heard of where the Guys intend for 6 months a year. At Bizej George and I probed around some but found the vegetation impenetrable and no sign of birds. There are 2-3 shacks with families living in them. If these people go into the interior of the island at all we could find no way they could. The rest of the S.I. party went to Carlson (Enubij) Island for fish collecting. They returned with a fair variety including some species not seen before this trip. Reported very hard job because of heavy currents. Nov. 2 Roger & I went up to the runway in the afternoon to investigate the Shorebirds. Though somewhat inadequately prepared as far as days' roundout because we didn't expect much, we were rewarded with 5 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, 1 Sandpiper sp., 1 Sandpiper, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Pintail (♂), 1 Tufted (♀) Duck and 1 unknown duck. In addition we saw 3 other ducks, one of which we wounded.
