V. Davis 26 1946 Pinnacles National Monument, San Benito Co., calif. to Canyon, Contra Costa Co., Calif. May 13, 1946 Broke camp and left the Nat. Mon. at about 7:00 a.m. Drove to town of Pinnacles, 1 mi. to the NW, then to the town of San Benito, 4 mi. SE of Pinnacles. Here we took a dirt road running SE to Hernandez, parallel to the San Benito River, which the road crossed every few miles. This road is NE of highway 25, and is shown as an improved road for 10 mi. and a graded road for 13 mi. to Hernan- dez. We stopped a few times to ask if yucca plants grew in this area, but were told that they were found mostly on rocky points in the hills. We saw a few scattered clumps in such pla- ces as we drove along. We went through Hernandez without even seeing signs of a town, and drove to a point 8 mi. SE of Hernandez, where the road maps show an improved road running to Idria; to the north. There is a gene- ral store at this turn-off, and the
