June 25. Merritt Island, Brevard Co., Florida. Went to Merritt Island after dusky sea - Ride Sparrows, but saw none. The mos- quitoes are absolutely incredible. As we moved across the salt marshes after sparrows, hundreds of them lit all over us. Anywhere on the island, if we stopped the car 20 seconds to observe, 50 or 60 mos- quitoes flew in the windows. Saw no spar- rows. Collected a red-winged blackbird. Also a glass-snake (Ophisaurus sp.) that Store saw crawling along the road. Specimen about 2 feet long, looking much like a giant Anniella. Also a blue-bellied Cnemidophorus-like lizard which I shot in the sand near some Palmetto scrub. June 26) 1 mi. S Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida. Collected here again. 2 immature Carola Warblers, immature bickled bitmouse + brown-headed nuthatch, + adult yellow- billed cuckoo, Summer Tanager, + white- eyed jowbee. Also 1 Hyla femoralis. These were the first brownheaded nuthatches we have run into. Store + I saw a flock of 5 high in Living Palustris. He Shot 2 + I. They showed no fear and did not fly when we shot. Stable, Sibley
