Most of the Sorex vagrans caught so far have been heavily infected with a large gray Ornithodoros tick, as many as 4 adults and 8 seed ticks having been found on the head of one throv. Neither Sorex obseurus or Sorex Howbridgii have been so infected. Aug. 10. Ran trap a.m. 14 Ceromyseus (4 adults, 10 immature), 1 Sorex howbridgii, 1 Sorex obscurus, 1 Zafus, and lot 1 Entomias fourcendi, skinned a.m. & feet of p.m. Went to Shavco & Chinook, ran traps on return, and cought 1 Sorex Obscurus, given to Chaltin. Sorex is very common here - vagrans, howbridgii, obscurus, and bendixi in order of descending abundance. They are liable to be found in any set - in grass, under trees, or in runs. Zafus seems to prefer open flat places where the bare earth shows through. The micratus is found mostly in the grass. Birds noted today: - Russet-backed Thrush, King- fisher, Winter Wren, Western Ring-billed Gulls, Red- Shafted Flicker, Northwestern Crow, Black-capped Chicka- dee, Song Sparrow. Aug. 11.
