24 Nov Wildcat Canyon
On Noide Canyon trail leading up to
the Plean Grove, we watched a group of 6, possibly
1-2 mrs., going feeding in grassy area with
matlness shrubs (Baccharis). They called
occasionally, the simple upswinging location
note - The area was warm (day cold), and
they were foraging apparently on insects, judging
by the regular, intermittent nibbling actions.
The close pair remained in the area during
the 10 minutes or so we were watching from a
trail on the opposite slope. Territorial
established groups (2) called from lower
parts of the slope, on our elepmental,
perched atop look-out branches, evidently
aware of this group [probably all old-young
birds].

Jan 12 Wildcat Canyon - On side canyon above (E.g.)
Jewel Lake, during entire period of a 1/2 hour
walk to, up, down, and away from the
canyon, there was a high level of concentrated
activity showing agonism, occasional chases, tax
while displaying and calling, as a flock
of matted Jays evidently moved into an
area initially held by a continuous mosaic
of territories - some 6 or 7 pairs at lower
end of canyon were calling repeatedly as
old lands, occasionally a turnover or three was
