The group would quiet down when the male would stand close to a female and sometimes struggle up to her. The remainder of the 44 would then fly off or fly a few feet away and settle down again. After several minute, the fight started again. 25 June, Barrow, Alaska Several large flocks (40-50) were noted in the vicinity of Elson Lagoon. Pairs were also frequent - The small ponds. Females, however, far outnumbered males. 30 June, Barrow, Alaska From 10-20 females were present on freshwater lagoon. Two pair were noted in the small ponds, just west of the road. 2 July, Barrow, Alaska At 1400, about 180 females were present on freshwater lagoons. They were scattered along the ship narrow water while feeding and would fly when a breeze came near.
