A.C. ZICHERER 1962 Tavernon Wash River (Island), Contra Costa Co. California. Jan. 27 John D. McCurry, Jr., a student in 300 Zoology. Brought in carcasses of one days catch at above location. (= about 15 muskrats, 3 beavers, 2 racoons, + 1 Bittern) Saved only a very large & beautiful for MVB, discussed about 10 muskrats & prepared pelt for personal or friends specimens or for Dr. Quay & his Zoo 106 course here. Bittern was caught in either a muskrat or a beaver trap set. Cooks caught in beaver cage, -- and for saved "carrot" sets for Dr. Benson. See "Catalog" # 2517 - 2529. McCurry brought in specimens of some mammals about this time last year. Said this year he got about $1.50 for muskrat skins (they were easy to read) from $5.00 for small beaver up to $12.00 - 15.00 for these 50 - 52 lb. specimens. Said largest he had caught (in 1961?) was 67#. He sells skins occasionally -- when he makes special sets for them -- but gets only $1.50 for a pelt. End 1962 Journal (- No species acts) for 1962
