Cat Nos 598 The dog caught a large female citellus while we were gathering up the traps. Cat.# 600 2:30 P.M. June 3, I saw a Townsend gopher throwing out loose earth from his tunnel. A half dozen boys were near and all gathered quietly in a group abo 10 ft. from his opening, and he kept reappearing, quite undisturbed during most of the day, two or three hundred boys had been tramping over the lot. It was at th site where about 1000 boys had gather to help build a monument. Even as we watched four boys, not among those watching the gopher, walked dire over the opening. He reappeared in about 3 minutes. The dirt was not flushed slowly but tossed by quick forward thrusts of the fu feet. We saw 2/3 of his total length once.
