Theeler 1959 Species Account Thommys Monticola p.2 Oct. 2. 1.4 mi. E, 6.1 mi. S Hobart Mills, 5700+ ft (sagebrush) Nevada Co., Calif. Early this afternoon I had put out three gopher sets here. I had one of this species when I checked traps at about 6:15 PM. This area is in the sagebrush above Proster Creek. The gopher was taken in soft, fine soil along an overgrown dirt road just a few yards from the main road (R887) There are an occasional Ponderosa Pines nearby. Oct. 3 0.5 mi. E, 0.3 mi N Boca, Nevada Co., Calif. Yesterday I had put out several gopher sets at this locality. This AM I had one T. Monticola here. This area is sage-brush covered with an occasional widely scattered pine. This locality is just east of the dam at the S end of the Boca Reservoir and about 100' above the dam. The soil is quite rocky. Oct. 3. 1.2 mi. E, 1.6 mi N Calpine, 4950+ ft. Sierra Co., Calif. Dick Banks and I got out about 8 sets here this AM. When we checked on the way back to Sage Run Creek and picked up two species of the T of this species. (For further details on this locality see Species Account of T. battae Oct. 4 same locally, p.3 Oct. 4 1.2 mi. E, 1.6 mi N Calpine, 4950+ ft. Sierra Co., Calif. I got 2 more specimens here this AM, as well as a T. battae. All of the T. monticola taken here were on the W side of the road and about 100 yards and more back from the road. 2.2 mi N E, 7 mi E Calpine, 4950+ ft, Sierra Co., Calif I had 4 gophers here this AM.
