outstretched wings. The note of the
sandpiper, however, differs decidedly
from the other earlier, in that it
is a deep and hoarser note (crawww-
crawww....). It is followed
by the same type trill as the
Red-hawk has when the day's
is over, but here again it is
on a lower scale. Once the bird
was seen to land, walk a few
feet and then fly off again and this
then he uttered a nasal quaw
some time and this sped up as it
was given and finally was
turned into the hoarse crawww....
described above. This low rolling
accelerating nasal note was also
given during the chase when the third
bird was forced to leave the area.
