Jan.1 Point Reyes, Marin Co., Calif.; 3 in ad. plumage at E. end of Limantour Estero. Watched for 20 minutes through telescopes from edge of parking area. Head and neck white; throat solid black, breaking up into black and gray barring on neck; bill pinkish, short, very triangular; underparts black and gray barred; upperpart similar but greater distance between black bars; legs bright orange-yellow; tail white.
