Most of the meadow below the road where mice + Vicentia were so abundant last summer, but poor cover now and few mouse again. Set in fringe of thistle, mustard + weeds along road. Above road quite a bit of sign but not especially fresh. May 18 Traps above road held 11 Vicentia, 5 Mice, 3 Ratites, and 1 Scolofarne. Below road 3 mice and 1 Ratite. Total 14 mice, 5 mmu, 4 Ratite, and 1 Scolop. Numerous 20-25 gram Vicentia. Of 3 dead in traps, one large & not preg (but power), 1 21-gram & with completely fur. interne. Only one of the Mice a jwr. at 5 p.m. set 87 Sherman out Carlett Hill Rd overpass, lying at Stiller + Coral. Grass lush and not at all dry yet; mustard in full bloom, 6' to 8' tall. Some runways, lots of cuttings. May 19 Considerable rain during night and a.m. plus thunder. Traps at 8:30 a.m. held 21 Vicentia, 1 Mice, and 2 Ratites (both d). In view of the high Vicentia
