Orinda
Jan 2 50 Sherman traps (natural) in Orinda pasture at 4:30
p.m. yesterday. lush grass and weeds (mustard,
thistle), about 4 plow cuts grass cutting but
few good runways. # started to rain about 5
p.m.; heavy rain during night shut down in a.m.
Traps held 3 mice, 1 male cricket, 11 Rethera, 2 shrews,
and 5 meervstus including a big lactating adult
and 3 pregnant juveniles (26-28 g/mice).
Mustard has been blooming for several weeks.
It was a good acorn fall.
Jan. 3 Left traps out.
Today 8 more Rethera and 6 mice.
Jan. 8 Some oats with seed heads already.
Feb. 14 40 Sherman in pasture and north pasture overnight; natural,
cloudy + some rain. Caught 2 shrews, 2 mice, 2 meervstus,
10 Rethera (805 ad 28). Lots of mustard blooming,
some oats with seed heads but most not yet.
March 14 50 Sherman in pasture overnight; rain during night.
some oats ripe but most not. much mustard seeding. Caught
3 meervstus, 8 Rethera, 4 mice, 2 shrew. Fairly abundant
meervstus sign.
May 30 50 Sherman stone Simpson and Fitzgerald
in Orinda overnight. Caught 7 Rethera, 7 mice,
and 11 meervstus. Wasn't much meervstus sign.
Vegetation drying up rapidly now, last of mustard
in bloom.
