June 4 Set the three Calhoun lines at 4-7 pm, but with certain departures from standard procedure owing to shortage of traps. The chaparral line had only one trap at the last 6 stations and only 2 traps at each of stations 24-30 (since 16 traps short on extension). These are the new additions to the chaparral line. The meadow trap line had 5 rat traps and 1 small Victor mouse trap used at the last 3 stations. Saw a pair redbutan oak line.
The spring has been very cool, few hot days; oats mostly still green. Long field full of blooming lupines; Jimmy Bell says best lupines year ever. No microtus sign.
June 5 Night cold and clear; morning clear, lots of dew. Ran traps at 6:30 with Phil Mayer, Andy Griffin, and Steve Davis. Chaparral line had lots of tucker, some Peromyscus calif., two Dipose, no birds (see summary). Meadow line had only two microtuses. Oak line had 1 spring zenatia in middle of line under the second limb.
Several impression is that there are lots of gobblers + lodgers this year. Saw "herd" of 7 large turkey on school hill. Day sunny, windy, cool. Saw one more lone turkey about usual number of deer.
Ran oak line at 3 pm, nothing. See species account of lodger encounters. Meadow line at 6 pm had 2 very stinky microtuse, and chaparral line had a large round lizard at station 31. Phil added the 16 missing speckles to this line and I replaced the 5 rat traps on the meadow line with museum speckles. Took photo of Dave Brodby's damage.
June 6 Night cold, clear, almost full moon. Ran trap at 6:30 am.
