Set up a 2 x 2 yd. exclusion (1/2" burlap cloth with plastic strip) in the field across the creek from Long Field, then we buried 18" deep to exclude moisture. Nearly set up another similar exclusion but wire not buried. Sept. 13 Staked out a single Colburn line in the same field, another through chains on Haystack Hill (10 stakes) and along the chain-grass boundary (10 staked), and a third line through "blue" oak woodland on Schoolhouse Hill above Davis' lizard area. Saw almost no moisture sign in the exclusion field, none in the woodland, but numerous "nests" in the grass on Haystack Hill. Very few carnivore droppings seen except for one concentration of 20 or 30 on Haystack, Oct. 8 Orinda. Put 22 Sherman at 6 p.m. along the fence between our pasture and Fitzgerald's.
