July 12 Didn't run Calhoun traps in PM yesterday. at 9 a.m., there were 4 Beithros (clear worms). 3 of the 4 had hemorrhagic lungs, accompanied by Ortys. Didn't run in PM. July 13 Clear + Warm. at 8:30 checked up traps; nothing in them. A few with pellets or ants. Aug. 5 1 1/2 mi E. Mendocino, Mendocino Co., Calif. Put out 38 Sherman (rolled oats) with Pitella at 4 pm. Sunny. 9 in scrubby pygmy forest (l. contorta etc.), some in a saw- gress + ferny glade in spades reduced- fir-bamboo forest, the rest along a foot through similar forest. Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. (sun coming through light fog) traps held one clifflumulus (townsendi?) and 5 shrews; no dormice! One shrew (Pocifins) dead, one dying, and one alive; two Townbridge's alive. One more Townbridge's at 11:30 am and 2 more clifflumulus before 4 pm. Checked up traps at 4 pm. Sunny all day. Aug 18 3 mi N. Fort Ross, Sonoma Co. Set 46 Shermans with rolled oats at 6 pm, mostly in saw grass along a tiny creek but some an irrigated meadow where there was microtus signs. At 8:30 p.m. one Sorex vagrans died. (Foggy). Ran traps at midnight, 4 a.m., and 7 am. Released 2 Beithros, 3 Pero mouse, and about 5 Microtius. Foggy all time. Aug. 23 Put 24 Shermans in Orida Pasture at 7 pm. Some sign of microtus but not a lot.
