June 8 Put out Colburn lines at 4 p.m. with Fitzgerald.
Museum specimens baited with peanut butter, Saw no good things,
cuttings, droppings, or whitewash. No cats. Picked up some
scats along the Colburn lines.
June 9 Clear in a.m. Traps untouched. Saw no cats.
June 10 Fog in a.m. Traps with 1 large slug (under pine tree) and
1 deerfoot. No cats
June 11 Clear in a.m. Traps with 1 meerkat on lower line
and 1 weasel on upper line. 3 deer seen, no cats,
many red-wings on the acre this year. Grass cover
fairly good in spite of dry spring months.
Scats. Picked up 1-2 qts scats along the Colburn
lines. These should be pro-rated back to January
when the Colburn lines were run last.
June 17-18 Picked up scats. No cats seen, 1 1/2 qts scats.
59 sets of gopher holes.
The Colburn scats contained: 11 "eggs", 22 mice,
3 Ratters, 5 hares, 6 gophers, 2 Sorex, 1 rabbit,
+ 2 birds.
The scats from the trails contained 13 mice, 2 Ratter,
2 Peromyscus, 2 birds, 1 rabbit, 2 hares, numerous "eggs",
and 8 gophers
July 18 Picked up scats in A.M. Considered mustard still strong.
Saw no cats. 1 Redtail ad 1 marsh hawk.
July 19 Finished picking up scats in PM. Saw marsh hawk again,
no cats. Some new trail bulldozing since yesterday, partly
new trails and partly scraping of old trails. Several
