March 17 Early mustard in pasture. 2 sets for March scale;
37 mice, 2 Renthro, 6 gopher, 1 weatowa, 1 rabbit,
1 herb, 1 bird
April 5 Picked up scats on about 3/3 rds of Tidden area.
33 fresh sets of gopher diggings. Saw no cats, no murature
sign.
April 14 Picked up scats on rest of area. Warm + Sunny. Saw
2 sets, a dark one and a pale tawny one. No murature
sign. 11 more sets of gopher mounds. 1 swallow garter
snake. Mole diggings at same place. Total 1 qt.
April 28 Contents of April 5 + 14 scats: 23 mice, 1 Renthro,
2 gophers, 1 rabbit, 1 bird, 1 lizard, 1 Sorek trouwldyga,
1 Sorek vognons.
May 5 Picked up scats on about 2/3 of Tidden area. Sunny,
coolish. Lots of mustard blowing, cats ripening. No rain
for more than a month. Lots of redwings in the meadows
with hawks. Saw 2 large skeloforus, 2 large Geronotus,
1 dead shrew, 1 ring-necked snake, and 53 gopher diggings.
Saw no cats. Not many droppings (+ 1 qt.), only 1 really fresh.
May 6 Set 3q pheromone in lower part of pasture. Quite a
lot of mouse sign (droppings and runways), but not real fresh. 8 PM,
at 7:30 A.M. traps held 4 mice, 4 murature, and 1 old Renthro.
Horned owls hoot every night.
May 10 Picked up remaining scats. No cats seen. 12 more gophers = total
of 65. 1 large skelofos. Total volume of scats for May 5 + 10 = 1 qt.
This contained 15 mice, 2 Renthro, 5 gopher, 4 herbs,
1 bird, and 5 spp? (intact fluid-filled sacs the size of small gophers).
