Person 1964 april 6 a graduate student found Fravie studying quail in a 100' x 100' enclosure in the Behavior Station. soy's he has recently trapped "at least a hundred" mice mice in his enclosure. zoo 113 class reports almost none in Strawberry Canyon. Fravis gives the quail some feed, but says they live mostly on vegetation at this time of year. april 10 Talked with various people in Tilden Park about Carnivores: (1) 2 gardeners in Botanical Garden, one of them a former Fish & Game employee. They say park has been controlling cats and killed at least 17 near the nature area not long ago. They like them in the gardens to keep quailers down. They have seen no coyotes or wildcats. (2) A Ranger at Broyland Room. He came on the job in 1961 and says there was no cat control that year but that there has been recently. Sees no coyotes or bobcats. (3) Mr Parler, ranger naturalist at the nature area. says he has been here 15 years and that only this winter have they controlled cats. Claims to have seen tracks and droppings of coyote & bobcat. Knows of no shrunk control by various people. (4) Marge --, assistant at the nature area. she did some phoning around and learned from Mr Nelson (superintendent?) that they have killed
