Oct. 11 Rain much of last night, probably enough to
sprout vegetation. Looked around Squawies again
but still no dead mice,
Oct. 15 more rain.
Oct. 16 Lots of grass sprouting in Orinda.
Oct. 23 Picked up scats in Tilden. Lots of grass sprouting and
decate. Found one dead mule deer (fur around had met).
Saw no cats, no live mice, numerous lizards.
Oct. 25 Picked up scats in Tilden. Saw 1 tabby cat,
several new mole runs. No live mice.
Oct. 27 Picked up scats. No cats seen.
Oct. 31 First frost
Nov. 11 Picked up scats, no good concentrations. Saw
1 redtail, 1 sparrow hawk, no cats.
Nov. 25 Picked up scats. Saw 1 skunk, 1 black cat on minute
slope, several mole runways.
Nov. 26 Picked up scats, saw 1 sparrow hawk, no cats.
Nov. 27 Looked for scats briefly, no cats.

Nov. 29 Set 72 shavers in Orinda pasture, every other station
on grid (= 10 yds part) at 4 p.m. Much of the green
vegetation is again weeds (common, mustard, thistles).
In some of the weedy places there are numerous square feet
with no new vegetation coming up, and lots of areas with
no grass. Of the two mouse exclosures, the upper one
(in weedy selected) has weeds coming up about as
