One mouse, a Mike, and how zen very few on other visits to the tower in the past 3 weeks. Have heard owls nightly.
Sept 23 Picked up scats in Tilden; collection includes 2 pers gibbon rostrum. No cats, Sparrow hawks. Set 4 & Sherman at Saguaro Point at 4 p.m.
Sept 24 Traps held 13 mice and 12 lizards, no males or females breeding. Avg weight of minks 29 grams.
Sept 28 At 5:30 p.m. saw cat moving Saguaros in Tilden area. Black with dark brown blotches. Watched 5-10 minutes. Saw 1 prince, he caught 1 mouse.
Sept 29 Took photos of Tilden area. Picked up a few scats. Saw no cats.
Oct.7 Picked up scats at 3:30 p.m. in Tilden. Saw a few mice, plus 3 robins, 1 sparrow hawk, big coy grail, 1 or 2 cats, 1 dead mouse under sequoia tree, 1 dead tomcat, 1 dead shrew. There is a white powder around the base of most of the sequoia trees. Several of the upper sequoias are being girdled and trimmed by mice. Mr Knight was flustering around the trees when I left at 5, possibly distributing poison.
Set 100 shrimps, every station on grid. Found only two scats on grid. Sunny, warm.
Oct.8 Ran traps at 7:30 a.m., cloudy but warm. 45 minutes and 22 lizards. Left rows A and B open but closed others. Done traps with five lizards or mice morning with ants; maybe looking for sugar in wine? Picked up more scats. Saw 2 sparrow hawks, no cats. Found 9 dead minks.
