1963 Pearson Jan.22 this morning was just moving in weeks alone freezing Jan.25 still cold, picked up scats on part of area. Jan 1 black cat and 1 red-tail. set 88 traps (skunk, rabbit cats) at Inspiration Point below County Way at 4 p.m. numerous runways + droppings. Jan weather or none. Jan.26 Traps at 8:30 A.M. held: 2 skunks, 2 Peromyscus, 2 mice, 10 microtine, and 47 Buthers. Jan.27 at 5 p.m. set 10 skunkmore areas bottom of Orinda pasture. Jan.28 Traps held 2 mice, 1 mink, and 4 Buthers. Gave 2 of the Buthers to Gary Davis, held 1 mink and 2 mice. Picked up scats on rest of Tilden Grid. Total for Jan.25 & 28 = 3 qts. Locate area. Newspaper says this is the worst winter drought since 1877; 43 days so far. Jan.29 PM rain. Feb.-3 a large & stuffed skunk dead along road just south of my Tilden study area contained a couple of handfuls of material in stomach, mostly gulls, no hair. George Herman poaching on the SW corner of my area with embated snap traps Feb 1-3 removed 39 microtine and 1 skunk. No Buthers!! Feb.15 set of rabbits at home in Orinda. Feb.18 saw gray & white cat 1/4 mile south of my Tilden study area and a black one on Inspiration Point-Orinda road.
