Jan. 14 at 4:30 p.m. set 100 Shermane tootmial at the bird in Tiller Park, Saw 1 blackish cat oraria and 1 red tail. Weather has been cold, no rain for long time.
Jan. 15 night cold + clear. Traps at 7 a.m. held 26 Reithrus and 5 mice (one of them dead). Only 2 of the Reithrus were tagged over. 3 of them appeared to be dictating q9! Fairly many good runaways. Saw 1 red-tail, also 1 black cat between Inspiration Point + Orinda.
at 4 p.m. same traps held 3 Reithrus and 18 mice. Note predominantly diurnal nature of mice during this cold spell. One mouse dead. Picked up every other trap and closed other half. Saw 1 red tail and 1 sparrow hawk. There has been ice in guttlres at Inspiration Point (and Orinda) for a week, even in afternoon.
Jan. 16 Opened all traps at 5 p.m. cold, no cats
Jan. 17 night clear, cold. At 7:30 a.m. the 50 traps held 21 Reithrus and 2 mice. Left traps set at same sites.
at 4 p.m. traps held 9 Reithrus and 9 mice/line. moved traps to alternate sites, no cats
Jan. 18 night cold, still frosty. Some fog, no cats, at 7:30 a.m. traps held 13 Reithrus and 4 mice.
Picked up traps at 4 p.m.: 6 Reithrus and 9 mice, included one baby Reithrus that was sitting on top of a stone squawking slightly, (saved), about 3 grams? Saw no cats but 1 sparrow hawk + 1 red tail. Scats picked up in past few days = 1 1/2 qts.
