april 23 at 4:30 p.m. put 77 shrews in mustard -
thistle - comins - grass at end of Barbara Rd., saw
only one good [illegible] hole - and a mile ran out of it.
mustard in bloom.
april 24 Trofs held 2 caro m[illegible], 1 Perograthus, and
5 Berthos. This was the first Perograthus in
several years, it was in dense mustard! &T trofs
out.
april 25 8 a.m. Trofs held 2 caro m[illegible] (one of them a gray
jiv.), 1 [illegible], 5 Berthos, 1 Perograthus (same place
as yesterday), and 1 [illegible]. weather fine.
april 27 Family saw Spilogale on front lawn in Orinda at
6 p.m. (good daylight)
april 28 Spilogale evicted from basement at 7 a.m.
april 29 Spilogale killed by Barney (dog). Picked up scat in
Tilden in a.m. No cats or hawks seen. Two bored
owls at home, however, last night and tonight. Also
search owls.
april 30 Trace of frost last night. Weather has been cool and
sunny. Lots of mustard blooming. Patches with much mustard.
Picked up scat in p.m., completing coverage of all trails
on the 35- acre area. No cats seen. total 1 1/4 qts.
Let 76 shrews at Minity triangle. Two or
three places with settings, no other mouse sign.
many takes this spring. Sometimes find 2 dozen
after setting traps; over 100 on the dog after a walk
yesterday.
