Jan. 15 Picked up 1 1/2 gallons of scats on Tilden area, placed about 6 scats on the grid pepper. Saw 2 cate (1 white, 1 yellow). Weather has been clear and cold.
Many fresh rabbits around home in Orinda.
Jarry Eastman on Valley View Road has seen as many as 15 or a 50 x 100 foot area in his back yard. I have shot 8 of them in the past week, and there are still many left.
Jan. 17 Orinda. Two horned owls near our house this morning at 7. Have been hearing them only occasionally lately. All nights very quiet lately.
Jan. 18 Picked up scats on Tilden, 3 qtrs. Together with Jan. 15 this makes a complete coverage of the Oaks and Saguaro trees on the area. Most scats must be new ones. Saw no cate but 2 red-tails.
Jan. 23 We are currently in an extreme cold spell. Orinda temps not extremely low but consistently cold. Berkeley officially 28° near all this? hour of 26°. Ground in Orinda is frozen solidly and stays frozen all day. Puddles along road in Orinda and at Inspiration Point have remained frozen for nearly a week, pipes are frozen at numerous residences. Snow in San Francisco.
At 5 p.m. set 80° Shemana in Tilden Park across from Camp Williams. Numerous good runways! out some fresh winter droppings! Saw-
