(961) Oct 10. Watched a cat hunting in field north of pasture. It caught 2 mice in 5 minutes; ate both. at 4 p.m. picked all scats around Tilden Bend in anticipation of rain. Rather quickly covered the two main horizontal firebreaks and all of the sequoia trees.) Saw one or two cats and a sparrow hawk. Totaled about 1 1/2 gallons, at least half of them mice + new. Oct 11 Covered most of the rest of the scat trails in Tilden at 10:30-11:30 a.m. Yesterday's and today's totaled about 2 1/2 gallons, at least half new (since left. 26). Saw 3 cats, 1 red-tail, and (sparrow hawk near the girl (all on the 40-acre scat area). Oct 12 Dr DeCune looked at Meristine lungslide and was impressed at the extent of the hemorrhage, and noted an abundance of polymorphs in the larger blood vessels. Caught another meristine in the Turner's flower garden (presumably late of water + greens) and it too had hemorrhagic lungs. Oct 19 Final score on the left: .26 Tilden comprise scats: 966 meristine, 106 mice, 80 Rattus, 2 gophers, 18 lizards, 4 toads, 4 robins, 1 quail, 1 finch, many mole crickets. Only 1 cat tag (#1301, a 65-m. S. Rattus) tagged at K2 on Aug 23 and recaptured Aug 24 (J1), Aug 25 (J1), Aug 26 (K2) Of these, 83 meristine, 8 mice, and 4 Rattus and 1 robin (+mole crickets) were in scats picked up on the grid itself.
