July 1 Drude Pasture. Quay came out at 5:30 p.m. to get some Micrastis kidneys. We put 35 Sherman along bottom 3 rows of grid and 39 in field north of pasture. Don traps at about 6:15 and 7:30. Hot. Caught about 20 Micrastis, about half of them died in traps in spite of being shaded. At 9 p.m. there were 38 Miles in the traps (all released). In other words, 24 traps in less than 1 1/2 hrs caught 38 Micrastis. Much scurrying, rustling, and grunting sound at ± 8:30 p.m.
July 2 Carl + I watched Micrastis in pasture from 7:30-8:15 a.m. No dew. As many as a half-dozen individuals visible at one time. Saw one "chase" and saw 3 different mice climb up into thistle stalks, cut off a leaf, and drop to ground.
I don't think there has been any dew for weeks.
