Last evening I heard a number of young Junco's calling
from a nest beneath a Yellow Birch from which
Miller shot a ? yesterday a.m. This a.m. the nest
contained three dead young birds just beginning to
get feathers along the tracts. They were preserved under
Miller's catalogue collecting number. The nest itself
was in the ground and covered over by stones from
a grass clump. Found a Lincoln Sparrow
nest near this. It was on the ground in some
tall grass beneath a small willow. The nest was
composed of small stems of dry grass. There were
3 eggs and two young just hatched in the nest. The
parent ran off in the grass, reminding one of a
meadow mouse. It was not seen until about
50 feet away then it flew up on a Small willow
and began to 'chip'. It was heard to give the
'thumping' note once or twice later. The traps
contained 2 Microtus , and 2 Ceromyces
