3 nest in territory of male a03. (su species notes), 2
west had 4 eggs apiece and a third did not contain
any. Collected a Bufo that was in Typha when
water was 1½ in. deep. Had heard it previously
giving call resembling a cross between call of a
Marsh Hawk & that of a Coot. Examined Marsh
Hawk nest 200 yds. S of there and found 3 large
young and 1 unhatched egg. Found Red wry
nest with 1 egg in S W corner of pond in
cottails. Another Redwing nest found in very
small clump of Typha 50 yards east in scrubby
area. From here I went ¼ mi. E to inspect
Brewer Blackbird nest previously found with eggs.
The nest contained 6 fairly well feathered young. 16
adults were seen nearby. Found Killdeer nest
near here and spend ½ hr watching 4 young
hatch from eggs. From here I went to within
½ mi. of home and inspected 5 more Redwing
nest. They went to other Killdeer nest & found
that all four young had hatched out. This occurred
between time I left at 6:30 a.m. and 12 m.
This p.m. I observed Arkansas Kingbird nest &
went down with Swodale to inspect 5 Redwing
nest & a Marsh Hawk nest 300yds. N E of cabin.
Long Spurred whose nest I found yesterday was
seen feeding a young bird, yet unable to fly.
