3.R. MOON 1987 Species Account Red Spotted Toad (Bufo punctatus) 17 May Goldstone Spring, Providence Mountains San Bernardino co., CA. T10N R14E Sec 31 SW'ly. elev. 1420 m. I found two live and one dead, dried up toads in one pitfall trap just below the Desert almond bush through which a very small stream from the spring flows. The muddy stream dries up just below this pitfall trap. Habitat is narrow, rocky sided canyon and somewhat sandy wash in steep, rocky, barren (burned piñon-juniper woodland) hillsides. 17 may Spring 1/4 mi. southeast of Goldstone spring, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. T9N R14E Sec 6 NE'ly. elev. ~1500 m. Found on more toad trying to burrow in sand in bottom of pitfall trap along small, short stream in sandy wash bottom just below the spring. Habitat is steep sided, barren (burned piñon-juniper woodland) canyon with sandy & somewhat rocky wash at canyon bottom. Some piñon pines, oaks, & shrubs nearby.
