General Notes Blue Mts. Oregon Taking highway & 99 to Bend, Oregon we branched off to Prineville and hence into the Ochoco forest at a point 11 miles west and 7 miles south of Mitchell, Wheeler Co. The party is headed by Dr. Alden Miller, the other members being Fred Test, Ward Russel, Don Tappe, Al Wolfson and myself. We pitched camp among Virgin forest of yellow pines some 50 yds from the road and 50 yds from a large meadow. May 8, 1938 Set out fifty traps following along a small stream which flows through meadows and in one place a narrow valley in which aspens are growing. There is very little cover but gopher diggings are numerous and the occasional windfall offers some shelter. Hyla are singing in the marshes, and I noticed one toad. May 9, 1938 The 1st 20 traps were empty but in the aspen grove caught one Zapus, one shrew and one Neosorex. These three animals were all taken in 1 1/2 foot grass and weeds in very damp soil about 1 foot from the creek. The creek itself is small, averaging 2 to 4 ft wide and running freely. I also got 2 Microtus morday and 7 Peromyscus maniculatus. Returning from the trap line found a stand of
