Palau
Zosterops conspicillata
Babelthnap 27 November Airstrip:
Common on the rolling hills
partially forested (2nd growth - no
big trees), partially covered with
lupurous fern growth. Saw
2 flocks well about dozen
individ. One in patch of sm trees
in the fern area, other in
dense patch woods side gravine.
Neither was associated with
emerea.
Most common at Babel, but
nowhere near as numerous as Saipan
& Tinian.
Flocks compact - forage in
sm. outer foliage. Constant
calling to keep members of flock
in contact.
Voice. Very distinct from Saipan.
Not a rough "chlip chlip" like Engl. Sparrow
(Saipan) but a high (very high pitched)
tee dee-dee, tee-dee a clear whistle
as high as I can whistle. This call
has notes from song of Mt. Chickadeer
Tee dee, te de, tee dee-dee-dee. No
song heard. Differs from emerea only
in clear tone & higher pitch.
