Marshall, 1945 14. Palau Gallus gallus Palau Common, wild, but frequently seen along roadsides (not secretive). Family groups seen daily with dozen or so chicks. These chickens were of variable coloration so probably largely interbred with domestics. Keror Heard in settled part of island but not seen. Heard on main ridge where the Megapodes were - crow all thru day but from the most remote & steepest mountain side. Never seen. These birds were so wild that I'm sure they must be original native stock. Never even get a look at one, although often heard them. Shot one chick. It flew from the trail on the top of the razor-backed ridge into a bush where I coll. it with roadside .22 shot. Just a chick but could fly perfectly. (# 3288 19 Nov) Rallus philippensis Common on all islands. Short seen usually running across roads at edge
