Marshall, 1945 Species Acc't 1. Sterna albifrons 26 Sept Lake Snupe, Saipan In afternoon 2 of these were diving on the main deep body of the lake - catching fish, shot one. None seen in following 2 weeks. Agrius alba 26 Sept Lake Snoupe, Saipan Always 4 or 5 pairs over L. for entire 2 wks. Today they did not associate with Sterna, & I have never seen them dive for fish in the lake. They engage in manoeuvres - a pair swooping c/o & twisting, always close together. They light in the Casuarina trees at margin & make a lot of noise. L 3055 was carrying a fish crosswise in its bill but the fish sank. However, generally saved the fish (held crosswise in bill) of same type from a bird on Tinian. Varanus 27 Sept L. Snoupe, Saipan 20' up on trunk of Casuarina tree edge lake. See Cat. for stom contents. 10ct Same place - a little fellow sitting on clump of Bermuda grass. Pteropus 28Sept L. Snupe, Saipan 1 hanging from Cas. tree
