Marshall, 1943 General Account Rockwood State Res. St. Louis Co., Mo., Dec 19 Cardinal (10) Every environment except meadow. Single or often paired. Goldfinch 50+ Flocks along stream - mingled with juncos & tree sparrows. Also seen in woods at edge. Junco 100+ Flocks - edge woods, and along stream. Tree Sparrow - 100+ A few small flocks in woods. Occasional individuals in tops dense timber; largest flock in weeds land near houses. Feed close together on ground. Loud clear robust notes. Fox Sparrow 1 in weeds. Song Sparrow (12) Only dense brush along or near stream, as marked on map. Two males were singing snatches of song at noon. ? in 2701 Taken with sling shot. Dec 20, 1943 2702 Starling 260 shell. Taken as singing on lawn. Flight reminds me of a swift!
