Marshall 1942 Tiaris bicolor Los Escamiles March 24 Flock found roaming thru blackberry thickets in open country or NE slope. Seemed to go into interior of bushes. Disappeared after 2 shut 1. (♀ 2157 shel) call trip March 26 Flock (looser) found in blackberry further up rut from & where Mar 24th. Took ♂ 2188 at edge blackberry thicket--others in neighboring bushes disappeared. That call- ing Opornis toluwii but may have been that latter sp. actually. March 30 Flock found in free brush back of house- roamed all over this little canyon during day: Individuals get far apart but keep in touch with "trip" note. 2209 ♂ skel in & 2210 ♀ taken. April 3 Flock at camp again today. Move around a lot (from ridge to bottom canyon & back 50-100 yds) Apr 4 ♂ 2256 taken, in brush on ridge near camp in a... call "trip" Rest of flock spread out over wide area Los Escamiles. W. slope Los Escamiles April 6 Flocks abundant in brush at side trail on way down rut to San Isquaco. Usually 2 Melozone crissalis with them. Flocks usually of 25 or more. Rather wary each species for only instant then off again: seen at middle altitudes on the rut,
