Zonotrichia capensis
Mt. Cacagnatique
Dec.26 ♀ 1603 taken in afternoon when I shot at
2 praying together at base of brush in garden
at hacienda. The other got away.
Dec.30 ♂ 1631 taken in same garden as
above in a.m. as gave ziple chipping
notes from top coffee bush.
These are the only times this sp. was
seen at Cacagnatique.
Los Escumiles, Dept. Chalatenango, El Salvador.
Marshall 2046-7 ♀♂ taken near camp (cleared brush
hillside formerly forest) chipping from
tops bushes. Chip metallic ♂
almost identical with call of Sporophila
miserula.
March16 2103 ♂ taken as sang from top stump near camp early
am. Only one long high note v gr.-b. goldfinch: tweeeeeee
Later another ♂ in trees around camp tsn, tsee, tweeeeeeee
or just last 2 notes - not at all suggestive of other Zonotrichs.
March17 Common in bachelor's grass & other brush (singing) on
summit divide
