Jan 15 ♀ in 1758 taken at lower edge oak forest on south slope. Was scratching around in a little patch of loose low brush resembling under a grove of oaks resembling our chineapin scrub under yellow pines. Another heard rustling there also. Elevation about 3800 or 4000 ft. about 25 yards from end of oaks and beginning of brush.

Mar 14 ♂ 2050 brought in alive by native
March 13 ♀ 2022 caught in rat trap (cat) in cloud forest in dense understory of brush & vines.
March 17 ♂ 2119 taken early am. in humid-loving plants well within cloud forest on summit. Was well down in bushes & giving a shrill penetrating squeak - not plaintive like Caltapetes.
Mar 25 ♂ 2174 taken at dusk as 2 were running along a log in burned brushy area - not cloud forest. Apparently came out & active in evening w/ hermit thrush.
Mar 27 ♂ 2193 taken in dense cloud forest - several foraging together making loud rustling in leaves on ground & calling with piercing squeaks - not in dense brush.
