Myadestes unicolor
Los Escumiles, Dept. Chalatenango, El Salvador
March 7 2 (together) seen flitting quietly thru grove
young white pines on a ridge - near
cloud forest. Assumed to be this sp. !!!!!
March 10 in cloud forest (orchid-ock) habitat - took
down hyloichla-like song & saw this bird
(2045-shel) sitting quietly on twig 50 ft up
singing. About 1 song/min, stops for some
min after flying to another tree. Seen
later with another - both flitting from
twig - twig - 2045 singing. Could then determine
identity of all the cloud-forest singers -
a very common bird - sing all thru
day (sunny today) but esp. early & late -
Song lasts longer than Hyloichla - about as
long as M. townsendi - phases of beautiful
& tones rich in overtones, wide range pitch
quality of a Hyloichla (low notes especially) -
This most notes are low & full - doesn't work up
high like Hyloichla. Ends usually with trill ~
trill ending of H. mustelina. Reorganizes song
about every 15 min.
March 14 2078 & taken - middle parts cloud forest trees.
Variation of song; heard in midday & evening - but
not full song - phrases separated - continuous,
but slow. Some harsh trills introduced !
March 15 2094 & taken in cloud forest - most persistent singer.
March 22 & 2146 singing in pine, windy day, on ridge - 50 yd from cloud forest
