Catharus occidentalis
March 10 Evening
March 21 Sunny early am. We were trying to flush quail from brush & blackberry tangle in draw near camp - a ♂ was flying around from place to place calling loudly (hylla note) & occasionally singing a few strong notes. Perched in full view several times saw it flick wings & raise tail just like hermit thrush except not as neat - shook more - not as smooth.
March 24 ♀ imm. 2159 taken in net trap by M.H. in dense cloud forest.
March 26 ♂ 2184 skel. taken in brush near Cloud fort on a ridge cloudy afternoon & were calling frequently. I watched this bird forage & hermit thrush by flying darting at a berry, hovering & picking it off, then returning into dense foliage to sit & call.
March 30 ♂ 2215 ♀ taken at dusk as foraged on ground near trail along ridge of cloud forest.
March 31 Beautiful singing - loud full songs, from brush country where cloud forest cleared at dusk on sw slope.
