Heleodytes zonatus
w slope Los Esesmiles
April 1 Abundant in pine grove 1/2 way down
w slope - in pines & in brush around
& under them. Some taken as foraged
goldfinch like in little brushes (head
leaning way over) , 1 taken as gave
hard cactus-wren-like notes from top
twig of pine. Much noise - always
2 or more together. 6 taken.
April 6 3 & 6 taken same place. Pairs would
perch side-by-side & sit motionless
on pine branches. I was amazed
to see them fly to pine trunks
& cling to bark like nuthatches &
climb up the trunk & around the
more upright limbs.
