Marshall. 1942 Gandolycia pernilis Los Esmerules March 25 ♂ 2179 taken in evening in area dense humid type brush (winglets) high or mt. in canyon of prime stream flushed 2 as came around bend of trail - saw same or 2 more perched in dense low trees above brush & shot one. None made a sound. March 26 ♀ 2181 shel. Tahulry Stut. near above place - also in dense brush also silent. March 3! On ridge & cloud forest heard peculiar plaintive long whistles - I gave out calls & finally got jays around me - after a long time they came in readily & looked about for owls. They had gt. variety of rather weak calls. Took 2 jws- 2222 & 2223 shel ♂. Another got away - must have been 5 or 6 altogether. Were in cloud forest trees & came into lower dense trees & brush around me.
