Marshall, 1943-2 1942 Empidonax? Elaenia obscura Mt. Cacagniguire Jan 2 ♀ 1661 coll. from lower or low deciduous tree at edge finer on ridge of summit. Foraging rapidly ~ Empidonax. Jan 14 ♂ 1754 taken in humid type brush on west summit where attracted with other birds to stuffed owl. Was sitting low in a bush 2' from ground. Jan 17 Taken (♂ 1767 skeleton?) from finer shade tree on summit where foraging with Empidonaces, warblers, tanagers. Los Escudiles March 13 2076 taken in brush at camp by Davis. March 14 2083 flushed from brush edge cleared hillside 2' from ground - at nest? Common - seen every day so far - today in more open cloud forest where white pines - usually in open co. brushes in clearings & edge cloud forest. Heard song today. Call ~ Wood Pewee but weaker & short. March 15 Abundant even in densest cloud forest - call heard all day. March 16 2105 ♂ taken as bathed at spring at camp. March 17 Heard singing today - esp. when 2 close together. Always perch at L not upright as woodpeeee. March 29 Very early am. before full light - sing for about 20 min + ½ hr. perched low or in crown of trees & give little hutton-vine-like note tsweee-algeee 1 per sec continually & steadily.
