Marshall, 1942 Antonichus verae pacis Les Eserniles Mar.30 at long range as it hopped about $2205 slid (x skin) in log & bushes. Later 3 more heard ) giving whistle - even open again all in edge cloud forest & when I called would give descending plaintive whistles so I think it is this bird that gives the kew, kew, kew low whistle. I saw one in flight in light cloud forest oaks - It gave a purrnut ? w. tanager then lit & gave the descending whistle. Looked large & reddish. Not certain yet, but I've heard this whistle from same birds where mounts before Antonichus has given the loud Hillbrand saw another whistles described earlier at dusk at same place when 2205 call. Mar.31 several heard in cloud forest (lower edge) sw slope at dusk. Apr.6 2 am (rather late & sunny day) heard calls within at edge 1st patch cloud forest flew across slid up main trail from camp. I answered it & got very close but could never see it as its calls came from gnd or bushes (under, but of cloud forest) nor did I hear its movements in leaves or twigs. I sat down above a bank in cloud forest & this bird called occasionally from all around as foraged. Saw it working (just twig moving) underneath mats
