Balanophyra formicivora
Mt. Cacaguajure
Dec. 25-Jan 16 Abundant in about 5 places in the area i.e. in colonies of 10- 25 or more.)
2 "colonies" in oaks at edge of finca where dead snags left & oaks rather open - would work out into finca a little, 2 in 2 places where oaks entirely cleared for coffee planting & many snags left, 1 in area n. of hacienda where giant oak forest had been greatly thinned. Usually a large dead tree would be the head-quarters for a group - several birds always seen on it. In clearing with snags n. hacienda, often seen flying from clearing into adjacent oak woods (thinned) & back - also fly-catching from high on these snags.
