Marshall, 1942 Aspatha gularis Los Esernales March 14 3 heard at dusk on ridge - young pines & 30' high deciduous trees. All within about 30 yards. Always perched in middle of trees - difference in pitch 1 or 2 steps. Mostly single syll. call - very much like a host. Sat very still while call - & within trees. 2084 coll - after I watched it make a rapid forage flight out after inset (stom & throat contents: beetles ) & return to same perch ~ Otus flammeus. Almost dark - all stopped calling at dusk. March 17 Heard in cloud forest also today. Much noise at dusk in canyon in " " back camp. March 19 am on 2nd growth, full across from camp where a few cloud forest oaks left - much small decid. growth, 20-30' high & dense. Heard 3 - came near while birds calling around owl. Shot 2 2124 ak & 2125 & sat together but both came in & sat quietly half way up in & in interior trees.
