Marshall, 1942 Dendroptyx loeophrys Loz Eucrites March 15 flushed one on ridge saw one fly across ridge of cloud forest - coming from a heading toward dense brush down on slopes alighted & could see it bobbing tail [illegible] in distance. 2096 taken by Stuit - he saw a pair dust-bathing in trail my area of blackberry - away from cloud forest. When they saw him, they went around a corner & crouched then I ran up trail & into brush & she shot the & when he followed. March 23 2152 taken in brushes back camp early foggy am. Was calling guo, guo, guo, guo, whee-whee, gum, wheewhen 1st note "guo" becomes harsh & breathy after several times. Very loud call - heard under same brush backcamp Movels. 21, & 22 - Stuit flushed the bird Mar. 21. Calls in early am. & will answer those calling across canyon. These calls come from single birds spaced out in blackberry brush - 1 on each ridge or bushy hillside in can. I stalked thru the brush & finally saw this bird crouched on a down log in dense brush, low trees & vines. Motionless. Very common & not now in flocks. Volcan de Santa Ana calls often heard in dense brush on top hill back camp. I could
