Coragyps atratus
December 25-Jan. 16 Mt. Cacagnatine
abundant - in groups or loose flocks,
especially around habitations. In
midday perch in groups on dead
snags, hold out wings in sun.
at night - scoot in finca - lots of
missing & flapping around even
after dark. Often seen on ground
around houses. Also on trails &
roads in finca where, when
approached, they lope away with
a curious awkward gallop to jump
hard with one foot [illegible] than the
other. They scan with wings
held out straighter than Cathartes & often
with feet dangling. The 2 sp. don't
associate closely at all.
Jan. 22-Feb 24 Lake Olomega
abundant, especially around flat country
around lake - came immediately to carcasses
put out around camp.
Common at Santa Clulata.
