Dut. Cacagnatique, Dept. Morazan, El Salvador.
on damp ground where Thythorus modestus see coll.
a sparrow (Aitlapetes?) seen on trail at edge brush & retreated into low vines. The oak timber on the ridge above this was rather short,
+ dense underbrush of vines & plants. Large mixed flock along edge of this and newly-planted finca (still much vine & brush growth between coffee beds here). p.m.: heard 3 Caprimulgo vociferus in semi-logged oak & 1 Cicada virgata in 1 mi. pine oaks.
Jan 9 am. Walked about 2 mi down the ridge running to north & got to the end of the virgin oak forest - here at 3500 ft. the mountain drops off abruptly as a series of cliffs & deep canyons. On the last few slopes above the cliffs, the oaks peter out or are cleared + there is brush & corn fields. On a rocky knoll covered with brush saw 2 Geococcyx & some Toluie warblers in the brush. Also in this dry + rather sparsly-leaved brush were 2 Cyclarhis flavidentris. Flock of Tyrannus verticalis, flock of Thalassina Calypimeta thalassina over this knoll.
